It’s been a long time coming and I am thrilled to finally be going LIVE with my shiny new website.  I have gone all out with this one!

The website has been built with the guidance and assistance of Laughing Buddha and the great guys down at Evil Donkey.  Together we have designed a website to showcase my work, making the different arenas of illustration I work in from picture books to branding really accessible and easy to view.  But most excitingly there is a simple, slick and user friendly SHOP where you can buy limited edition giclee prints.  There is a little something for all audiences in there – so happy shopping.  Hope you enjoy the site and please do leave any comments of feedback!

I’ve been gearing up & getting ready for my private exhibition this weekend, ‘The French Kitchen Exhibition’ @ Lower Church Farm.  I have been busy printing some lovely A4 & A5 Limited Edition Giclee Prints which will be for sale.  Seeing them all printed out – got me thinking to how they hang well together well as grouped triptychs, for example x3 herbs or x3 crustaceans or x3 veggies.

triptych,  is a work of art  that is divided into three sections, or three carved panels that are hinged together and can be folded shut or displayed open.

I ordered a few frames from the brilliant The Frame Company .  I have framed x3 cute little A5 herbs & x3 A5 Veggies and they look great with the different coloured frames and uniform ivory mounts.  The Frame Company has a wide selection of handmade frames which you can order online.  You can order your mount size and colour to your print specification.  They deliver in great time & are super reasonable.

These would look great in the kitchen!  Or as a House Warming gift.

Order online through my SHOP – Enjoy.

On Sunday 6th December I had a small private exhibition at my parents home in the country side to sell the originals of the illustrations I painted for Michel Roux Jr’s, ‘The French Kitchen’ which was published earlier this year.

My very talented Mum & her side kick Sarah Ede beautifully framed yet another show for me.  This time seeing non-uniform rustic style frames house the Oysters to the Artichoke.  I went home late Thursday evening with boxes of cards to pack, Limited Edition Prints to cut and wrap, Tea-Towels to fold.  My best friend Becca joined the female strong brigade to help hang the pictures the following Friday and set up ‘shop’.  I even got my Dad working on Saturday evening packaging cards – only he was more of a hindrance than a help – he packed over x50 Lobster cards into their envelopes instead of into the cello bag with envelope stacked behind card.  Many hands did not make light work in this case.

Sunday saw a busy & bustling few hours, Wine & Elderflower fizz flowed, honey’n’mustard sausages got devoured &  Tea-Towels were flying off my rustic door Table top shop!  There are still some originals left, which I shall be photographing this week and getting them up in my shop soon!

Thanks to all who came down and helped out in making it such a successful show.

My lovely husband organised a surprise weekend away staying in a beautifully converted cowshed at Hawthbush Farm, Sussex.  It was a welcome retreat from the concrete jungle that is London.

Usually I would go away with sketchbook and mechanical pencils in tow.  But this time I packed an array of implements that I never use.  Conte Charcoal sticks, red chalk pastels, indian inks, sponges & large paintbrushes… not a 0.3mm pencil lead in sight.  After a long walk on saturday morning, collecting long sticks, feathers and clay.  I rolled out my cheap 1400 wall lining paper, bound my sponges, brushes & charcoal to the ends of the long sticks with tape and filled an array of glasses with varied strengths of diluted black, red sienna & green apple ink.

Onions, Apples, Pears, Garlic and Avocado from our Veg box made for the perfect subject.

I set myself some rules, as an illustrator I confess I am addicted to detail and precision, so the challenge for me was to not care about accuracy.

RULE 1 – No looking at the paper whilst painting

RULE 2 – Each painting could take no longer than 5 minutes.

RULE 3 – I couldn’t hold/use any instrument that wasn’t attached to a long stick, thus preventing overly considered lines

RULE 4 – Not to care about the outcome, the luxury of a £3.99 roll of paper meant I didn’t have the burden of worry that I was wasting valuable paper and therefore being too precious.

It was a GREAT exercise and I surprised myself at how much I loved the freedom and speed of the technique.

The Onions stole the lime light with the crackled skin and wispy tails.  I am already looking forward to doing more painting and it has ignited a flame in me to paint more using foreign materials and working out of the comforts of my illustration style.  OCD Illustrator or not, I couldn’t recommend more giving this a whirl, it was total liberation from detail and perfectionism.

An inspiring exercise all round.

Below are the results of my FIVE MINUTE PAINTING weekend……
